Project Background
The date is February 18, 21800 CE. You’ve been waiting for this day for years, the day the Intragalactic Olympic Committee (IOC) starts accepting proposals for worlds to host the Games of the 4095th Olympiad. You want to showcase your home world and put it emphatically on the galactic map. Each proposal should be in the form of an Automated Representation of Kulture (ARK), which can be shipped to the galactic capital for evaluation. Since it’s impractical to get the entire galaxy to vote at once, a small, randomly selected group of ALIEN League Intragalactic Event Negotiators (ALIENs) will be brought to the galactic capital, where they will evaluate your ARKs. The ARKs must meet the following specifications:
- Power up into a welcoming mode, encouraging interaction with the ALIEN. Whenever the device is in this mode it should create a display to awe the ALIENs with the majesty of your world.
- The average ALIEN should take approximately 45 seconds to interact with your ARK.
- Because some ALIENs may perceive time differently, each ARK should include a creative display of the passage of the time since the ALIENs have begun their evaluation.
- Involve at least 3 distinct ALIEN interactions.
- Include a large scale motion on the part of the ALIEN for at least one of its interactions.
- At least one of the user interactions must be interpreted as an analog input from the user.
- At least one of the user interactions must involve non-contact sensing.
- Must provide the user with feedback about his/her actions. The feedback must include at least one of: haptic/audio/tactile feedback.
Project Overview

Though our team's loyalties lie with the Rebel Alliance and the Lightside of the force, we recognize that both Jedi and Sith ALIENs will be interacting with the ARK, so to start the game the ALIEN can choose whether to play the game in Darkside or Lightside mode by pressing the corresponding button. Welcome music is playing as the ALIEN approaches the ARK. By pressing either the Lightside or Darkside buttons, the music playing changes and the game begins. When a button is pressed, the Deathstar begins to rise above the horizon of Jedha City, signifying the passage of time.
ALIEN users are then able to build their own custom Lightsaber. To do this, a Kyber Crystal Lever is provided. Moving the Kyber Crystal changes the color of light emitted from the Lightsaber. ALIENs only have 15 seconds to change the color of their Lightsaber before the crystal starts to rumble signifying their color is set. ALIENs are then able test their skills at using the force and are cued to do so by either Obi-Wan Kenobi or Darth Vader via audio. A hand symbol is shown to indicate where users should hold their hands to attempt to lift the Lightsaber with the force. If a user is powerful in the force (their hand is in the correct position), the Lightsaber will rise. If the user loses concentration or the force abandons them the Lightsaber will fall. At this point the Deathstar has reached the zenith of its trajectory, waiting to unleash it's fury on Jedha. Commander Tarkin notifies the user of the impending doom, the Deathstar beam fires and the game ends. Both the Lightsaber and Deathstar reset to their zero positions, the Kyber Crystal resumes a neutral color, and the welcome music begins again, awaiting another ALIEN user. |
